Non-law Degree?
We are looking for people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience, and know that the best potential lawyers won't just be those who have read a Law degree. We also welcome applications from individuals at all stages – undergraduates and graduates. As long as you can demonstrate the skills we look for, we want to hear from you.
As a non-law graduate your training contract with us will be exactly the same as a law graduate. However, your route to qualification will be slightly different (timetable for law and non-law ) as you will have to study for the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at Law School. This also applies if you have studied law in Ireland or Scotland, or have completed a law degree in an international jurisdiction that is not recognised as a qualifying law degree by the Solicitors' Regulation Authority (SRA).
The GDL is a one-year (or two-year part time) course designed to teach you research skills and everything you need to know about law before you join those who have read Law degrees. We require all non-law candidates who have accepted a training contract prior to starting law school to study the GDL at one of the following locations: Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, Guildford, London Bloomsbury, London Moorgate, Manchester or York. If you have any extenuating circumstances which may affect where you can study the GDL we would discuss this with you. If you study the GDL and LPC at the College of Law, you will be awarded an LLB after passing both.
