Choppy Waters
It's been a fairly quiet time for me outside of work since I last wrote. I received a super chunky credit card bill from last months jaunt to California which has caused something of a mini credit crunch of its own volition - a Hank Paulson style bail out would be gratefully received - any takers?

Wake up
I've spent the best part of the summer (when not on crutches or in a moon boot - see last month) trying to become a decent wakeboarder (which is like waterskiing on a snowboard for those that don't know). It's been a passion of mine for ages which started when I was in university in Singapore (when, sadly, I was a touch fitter and more bendy than I am today) but it has been something of a neglected hobby for the past few years - until now that is. My ankle is now mended to the point that I'm happy to get back out on the water (although I think my doctor may have opposing views) and try to land some tricks (never going to happen). I headed off to a place that I've been going to for a while out in sunny Surrey but sadly the water was a little on the choppy side and despite being advised that it wasn't the best plan to go out in I thought it "didn't look too bad", oh how I regret the foolhardy approach now....I tried a fairly sizeable jump only to be hit with a really ropey landing (purely down to the water you understand, nothing to do with lack of skill) ending up with what is known in the trade as a face plant (read pain) and has meant that I've felt like I've been in a car crash all week. Cool. Will be doing my best to damage myself again this weekend too, think I might be having some sort of premature midlife crisis.
Anniversary
It was anniversary time for my girlfriend and I last weekend. The lucky lady had the pleasure of my cooking to contend with on the Friday night which whilst not exactly being a triumph didn't result in any fatalities so I must be doing something right. However I thought the fair lady might appreciate something a little more lavish than my culinary skills could deliver so the following evening I whisked her off to the OXO tower which was really awesome. The food and wine were fantastic and the view was amazing, it was one of those moments that reminds you what a cool place London is to live in.
And it continues....
And so the global financial muddle continues. As I'm sure you will have seen in the press, the latest bank to experience trouble are Icelandic lenders Landsbanki. Each bank that goes down obviously has serious implications for the City as a whole and whilst on secondment I have been playing a role in how Barclays responds and assesses its own position in relation each of these institutions. Still, it's not all doom and gloom for the banks at the moment, I've managed to secure the A&O box at Wembley this weekend so am taking some of the Barclays guys to the glamour tie that is England v Kazakhstan. Can't wait to see lots of England fans in "hilarious" Borat costumes.
