Farewell to Barclays
08 Jan 2009
Hi All
I hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New Year and are raring go in 2009.
Bedridden
This instalment is going to be fairly brief as my month has essentially involved being heavily dosed up on morphine with my leg in the air following an operation on my troublesome ankle. There have been few highlights to note but if anyone needs any book recommendations please do not hesitate to contact me!. So whilst it's not exactly been a month to remember there has been some distinct benefits to the operation including providing a legitimate excuse for buying 100% of my Christmas presents from Amazon and doing an upturned turtle impression after falling over in a public house. I'll spare everyone the gory details but the operation went well and I now have a cool looking scar right up the side of my ankle - roll on the summer when I can show that bad boy off. Actually, roll on the summer anyway because it's absolutely freezing at the moment, -10 degrees in London, what's going on?
“I'm now in the last week of my six month secondment at Barclays which has been a great experience. ”
I was recuperating back home in the Wirral where I shamelessly imposed myself on my Mum and Dad for three weeks. It was great being back for a decent length of time and to catch up with family and friends. It was particular good to spend time with my little nephews Oliver and George who were the stars of the show over the Christmas period - it's incredible how excited kids get about everything to do with Christmas (particularly bubble wrap), mind you, I think I'd be getting fairly excited too if I got the same number of presents that they did (they may have got lots of presents but they couldn't match their Uncle Paul when it came to scalextric, who cares that they're 2 and 4 years old - a win is a win).
New Years
Sadly all plans for a rock and roll New Years party were cancelled because of the galactic moon boot I'm currently sporting. Rather than the usual drinkathon I had a very civilised meal out with my parents and girlfriend in Wandsworth and then went back to my flat for a couple of glasses of champers. We had a really brilliant night though and I have to say it was really nice to kick the new year off without a gale force hangover.
Farewell to Barclays
I'm now in the last week of my six month secondment at Barclays which has been a great experience. The legal team have been fantastic to work for and I've made lots of friends and contacts which I'm sure will be lasting. It's been interesting to be on site with one of our best clients and to see the sort of legal and commercial issues that are really important to them. I'm sure the experience will make me a more rounded lawyer in the future. It's obviously also been a fascinating time to be in-house at a bank to witness first hand their reaction to the market turmoil and how it is subsequently being dealt with. My sincere thanks to all at Barclays.
