So last night A&O entered a team into a rugby sevens tournament. I was really excited about this because I hadn't played rugby in about 4 years and I though it would be a great way to meet some people and have a good run out. Unfortunately my run out was about 7 minutes before I managed to bust my lip and had to head to the hospital for stitches! As a result I am sporting quite a tough man look around the office today and it's lucky for me that tomorrow is Good Friday so we all have a few days off!
Although my efforts at getting involved in A&O sports did not have a happy ending (9 stitches), it is usually a great way to have fun outside of the office and to meet new friends both in and outside of work. With the Summer coming up now there will be more events like BBQ's and different sports kicking off like softball on Monday nights. Once I rest up I hope to be back involved in the Summer calendar of events!
Life in the comfort and safety of the office
After my flirtation with rugby sevens, I have realised that I am much better suited to working in a law firm. I am really enjoying my new seat in mergers and acquisitions. So far I have done a couple of research notes for clients advising them on whether or not they should appoint certain persons as directors based on the Combined Code, I have examined some insider dealing issues and I have also prepared board minutes, powers of attorney and other documents in relation to a large redeemable share issue.
All this work was new to me and very different from litigation or banking (my previous seats) so it's great to be able to pick up new skills. I am also getting more involved in the marketing side of the business. I have been helping my trainer pitch for new work by reviewing information on a number of companies in order to establish the main commercial issues facing these potential clients.
Easter and out
It’s a short week with Easter Friday tomorrow and I'm heading home to Ireland for a break. It was supposed to be a pretty busy weekend for me with a gig on Saturday night but I think me and my fat lip will be staying in doors for a few days. Looking forward though, with a couple of new deals kicking off in April and a trip to Stockholm with some work friends at the end of May, the run into Summer looks exciting and hopefully accident free!
Happy Easter …
