Introducing....Maurice Conway

16 Sep 2009

Hello and welcome to my blog! When I sat down to write this blog I thought to myself, who is actually going to read this? Who actually wants to know about anything I do except my mum?

“Over the course of this blog, I plan on challenging a few of the stereotypes you hear about law firms”

Perhaps there will be two types of people that follow my blog. Some will follow it to learn a little bit about what it's like being a trainee at Allen & Overy and life in London as a whole. That's the group I hope to attract. However, there is also the chance that there will be some people who will follow this blog to see just how much I can embarrass myself in just a few paragraphs of text. For both audiences, I hope I won't disappoint.

Over the next six months, I plan to tell the story of my ups and downs (in and out of work) and my new experiences (both good and bad). So whether you will end up laughing at me or with me, I plan to keep it honest and interesting and hopefully you will all get out of this blog what you came here for! So that’s the plan for the future, now a little bit about the past…

I grew up in Ireland and studied Law and Business at University College Dublin. Over the course of this blog, I plan on challenging a few of the stereotypes you hear about law firms, but first let's start with the Irish ones. Leprechauns do exist, people don’t actually say ''to be sure, to be sure'', and a seven course meal in Ireland isn’t a six pack of beer and a potato. Nevertheless, I did leave Ireland last March to join Allen & Overy as a trainee. I did my first seat in Banking and I have just started my second seat in the Litigation department. I am really excited about this new seat and have already got involved in some interesting cases.

I think the best thing to do is to tell you more about myself and the work as we go, so for now I will say goodbye and hopefully you will drop back in October for my next blog!
