My Xmas Blog!

23 Dec 2009

The term is over and Christmas is here! I think I speak for everyone on the course when I say it feels good to be done (the first term at least). However, the last four weeks since my last post have not been a slow countdown to Christmas after the mocks (unfortunately). The LPC is a beast that is never fully tamed. Once one milestone is reached, the next is only around the corner. And so it was for us. Once the mocks were over, we had a research assignment due the following week and then three weeks to prepare for our assessments in advocacy and Solicitor’s Accounts. I’m not entirely sure how they went (they seemed to pass by in a bit of a daze) but I do remember that everyone was very happy to celebrate when they were over!

“this term has been a truly roller coaster ride, in every sense”

In addition, we have of course been balancing work and play (mine was slightly over balanced towards the latter but let's not dwell on semantics) and in true A&O fashion that involved a Xmas Quiz, Drinks and Party. All the teams had great fun (mine finished mid-table which was very respectable) and again it was another night where the firm made us feel part of the team even if we haven’t yet started working. My special thanks goes to Rachael, Celine, Ben and Matt, who on top of doing everything on the LPC, found time to write the Quiz and arrange a really fun night.

As you may have read from my previous posts, this term has been a truly roller coaster ride, in every sense. Three and a half months have flown by and at the same time felt like years. It would be misleading to say that everyone has enjoyed every moment. The workload has clearly been something many of us have never faced before and I, like many others, had days when I didn’t feel great (mine happened the week after the mocks). However, I can honestly say that the thing I learnt most is that the people at A&O are the best you will find. No group has collectively bonded so well in such a short space of time. Whenever I felt low there was always someone who would come out for a coffee, a drink or a meal and things would always feel better afterwards (In my case it was normally long lunches as I told you in my first post I love food). For that reason, despite complaining that the holiday is too short (which it is), I look forward to the new year, the new challenging experiences it will bring and jumping right back onto the rollercoaster!

Finally, to all those reading this blog, both friends on the LPC and prospective applicants, I hope you’ve had a great year, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
