It's mocks week!

20 Nov 2009

I’m back!

May I first apologise for the slightly delayed blog this week. Unfortunately, this week was the week of our mocks, which finally finished yesterday. Sufficed to say the next three days, beginning last night, will be busy in celebration. Given how everyone found them, I’m not entirely sure what is being celebrated, but at A&O I don’t think anybody really needs an excuse to party! However, the partying will not last long. The end of the mocks brings forward the prospect of four fun-filled weeks of Practical Legal Research coursework, Advocacy assessment and the slightly terrifying Solicitor’s Accounts assessment on the last day of term, in addition to our normal workshop duties.

“Can I thank those who have written to me about the blog. I’m glad you have enjoyed it so far.”

Nevertheless, even with the course hotting up (it’s now at boiling point because I didn’t think it could get any hotter after my last blog), somehow the extra-curricular activities have not been shelved, but instead have continued to mount! Since I’ve already discussed some of the stuff I’ve been doing in previous blogs, I thought I’d take this opportunity to share with you the activities of a few friends. Bizarrely they wanted codenames instead of their real names. I think that’s the delirium of mocks taking its toll but here goes.

‘Dancing Queen’ has founded a Salsa society for the whole of the College of Law, begun rock climbing with a few other A&Oers and still managed to find the time to make 44 pages of consolidated notes for civil litigation (I made 5 so I stole hers).

Not only is ‘Smooth Talker’ staying on top of everything at College, he has still found the time to prepare for an international arbitration moot (including planning pre-moots for Vienna, Miami, Belgrade and Prague) and is planning our trip from London to India, by train, for immediately after we finish the LPC! He clearly knows if he left it to me, we might end up going from London to Curry Mile in Manchester, by train, for our travels!

And now we come to the ‘Phantom of the Opera’. Not only has he made fantastic notes for Property Law and Practice (which again I may have borrowed), he is directing the A&O opera; “The Magic Flute”! From what I understand, this will be no ordinary opera. Having seen the stage designs, at Glyndebourne no less, and having been told that the plot includes love, water-boarding and people wearing large animal heads, I can’t wait!

Finally, can I thank those who have written to me about the blog. I’m glad you have enjoyed it so far. I have responded, and will continue to respond, to all comments and questions but would kindly request that these are only made in the comments section below this blog.

I’ll be back for a Xmas Special blog on 23 December but until then good luck to all those applying for Vac Schemes!
