Exams are over
28 Jun 2010
The LPC year can on occasion seem like an eternity and alternatively seem to have passed by in the blink of an eye. And so it was for our last month on the course. It was only in March that we began the three subjects that we would be examined on and upon which our year would hang. How would we answer the three hour exams having only about twenty hours of workshops on each subject? So as I left you last time the final slog was on...
Given how diligent I've sounded in all my previous blog posts I'm sure you were expecting me to work hard and slave away until the exams were over (if so I recommend rereading those posts again and carefully)! However, over the last four weeks of the LPC term I did have to get my head down and revise/learn from scratch. With the year that we had been through this was not easy. It would be fair to say that morale, at that point, was not particularly high and the main motivation was our summer holidays, but what had to be done had to be done.
In true A&O style even when the going gets tough, the A&O way will hold firm. Therefore, even when faced with the daunting prospect of our last exams ever and the option of competing against each other or working with each other, the prospect was made easier because we only saw one option. Once again, the notes sharing group was re-launched with fantastic resources shared and pooled. Throughout my year on the LPC, this group has proved invaluable to many at A&O and the envy of many outside. It is a testament to everyone in the year that a group like this could be formed and would be given the huge level of whole-hearted support that it has. By the end of the year, the group had over 90 members, an amazing number considering it only started as four friends sharing a few notes.
However, even with all of the help and support provided preceding the exams, the exam room can be a lonely place, particularly when the exams prove to be as tough as some of them were. It is difficult to tell how they went but sufficed to say that I hope not to have to face them ever again. The final exam in particular left many wondering if our ‘final exam ever’ would suddenly turn into our penultimate exam!
“In true A&O style even when the going gets tough, the A&O way will hold firm.”
Nevertheless, when the exams were done, that same A&O spirit of fun loving soon returned and troubles of the preceding weeks were quickly forgotten, replaced with anxieties over whether England should play 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 (particularly as our exams finished on the day of England v Algeria and A&O had put on a drinks reception encompassing the (horrific) game).
With summer upon us and the LPC year at an end friends and colleagues will be dashing all over the world. I wish them all well and hope to see them soon because without them these last few weeks would have been much much harder. In my final post, next time, I will hopefully set out my thoughts on the year as a whole and my plans for the year ahead. Until then though, I hope you enjoy the good weather (while it lasts) and wish those who may be applying for jobs or currently on internships every success.
